064 - How Change Can Make You a Better Person (Les Misérables, Part Deux)
Salut, Bettys and Jacks! Welcome to Part Deux of our Les Misérables series (it’s not really a series, as much as it is we just had a LOT to say about it, and didn’t want the episode to be two hours long!). If you haven’t listened to episode 63, please do that first. Mary and Lexy spend at least the first 20 minutes of this episode talking about injuries, and some of the descriptions are a little graphic. If that kind of talk is not your thing, go ahead and skip to about the 20:00 mark. You’ll miss our PSAs on how to prevent injuries (PLEASE don’t reach up into your lawnmowers, people!!), but we completely understand. We also talk a bit about Fantine's desperate situation (prostitution) and Javert's suicide, so please be aware of that before you listen.
Alexis does a little bit deeper dive into some of the characters in the story: Javert, a little about Jean Valjean, Fantine, her daughter Cosette, who is raised by Valjean after she dies, and Éponine. As Mary and Lexy discuss these characters, we talk about some of the forks in our own roads, and how we have responded to the inevitable changes in our lives, and the sacrifices required to become a better person.
Our Better Betty Challenge for today is to consider whether we are navigating our lives and decisions from a place of ego, or from a place of humility. Teachable or bust!
